Does leasing a car affect my mortgage application?
How does this work?
When you lease a car, you enter into a fixed monthly payment agreement. Mortgage lenders, including banks, will take this financial obligation into account when calculating your income and expenses. A private lease contract is considered part of your monthly financial commitments, which means it can lower your maximum borrowing capacity. We recommend contacting your bank or mortgage provider to check how a lease car might impact your specific borrowing potential.

What does the first invoice look like?
Since you receive your car partway through the month, your first invoice will be slightly different. It will include a partial amount for the first month, plus the full lease amount for the following month. Lease payments are always billed in advance.
Although fuel is not included in the lease contract, we charge a one-time fee of €44 (including VAT) for the partial fuel tank. If you are leasing a fully electric car, this fee does not apply.
Was your private lease car delivered to your home?
Then €75 will be charged for transport if the car was delivered on the mainland. If you live on one of the Wadden Islands, the fee will be slightly higher due to ferry and travel time.Questions?

How does the invoice payment work?
The payment for your lease car is handled via direct debit. We collect the lease amount on the last working day of the month, in advance of the month to which the payment applies. After all, lease payments are made one month in advance.

How is the excess (own risk) arranged?
If you cause damage to someone else’s vehicle and your own car is not damaged, a third party liability (WA) excess of 150 euros will be charged.
If both your own car and the other party’s car are damaged, a comprehensive (Casco) excess of 300 euros per incident applies. You can lower the WA excess to zero with an optional contract add-on for 5 euros per month.A chip repair to the windscreen is usually free of charge. However, if the windscreen needs to be replaced, an excess of 70 euros applies.
Good to know
If an incident involves both WA and Casco damage, the maximum excess charged will be 300 euros.
You do not pay an excess if the damage can be recovered from another party. In some cases, we might charge the excess upfront. Once we receive the funds from the insurer, we will refund you immediately.Questions?

How does it work with taxes?
If you lease a car privately, there is no additional tax (bijtelling) to pay. You also don’t need to worry about road tax (motorrijtuigenbelasting). It’s already included in your monthly lease price.
Are you leasing an electric car? Then you may see your lease price increase in the coming years. That’s because the government plans to phase out the road tax discount for electric vehicles. This only applies to electric cars.

Is my private lease contract registered with the BKR?
Yes. During the approval process, we run a credit check with the BKR (Dutch Credit Registration Office). Once you start driving your new car, we register the lease contract with the BKR.
The registered amount equals the monthly lease price multiplied by the total number of months in your contract.
As of 1 April 2022, all members of the Private Lease Quality Mark are required to register 100% of the amount. Before that date, it was 65% of the total.
Example
Suppose your lease price is €350 per month and your contract runs for 24 months. Then €350 x 24 = €8,400 will be registered with the BKR.Want more information about how BKR registration works with private lease? Check the private lease and BKR page on our website.
Important
It is not possible to apply for a private lease car if you have a negative BKR registration.Questions?
